The organised teacher: packing up the classroom ready for summer break

You made it! Summer break is just around the corner and another school year is coming to and end. However, as any educator knows, there’s rarely any time to relax and enjoy the last few weeks with so much still to do. Packing up your classroom might seem like the last thing you should be worrying about right now, but if you do it right, it will make your life one hundred times easier when the start of the next school year comes around.

To make the process a little easier on you, we spoke to the Principle Interior Designer at Bella Vie Interiors, Lisa Alward, to help compile a list of the best practices to follow when packing up your classroom for the break.

  1. Start early. Don't wait until the last minute to pack up your classroom. This will give you plenty of time to organise your supplies and make sure that everything is in its place.
  2. Take pictures. Take pictures of your classroom before you pack up. As designers, we use this tip in homes and it really helps us with the finer details. Doing this will help you remember where everything goes when you unpack your classroom in the new year.
  3. Be organised. Have a system for packing up your classroom. This might involve creating a checklist or using a labelling system. This will help you unpack your classroom quickly and easily when the new school term begins.
  4. Recycle and donate. Get rid of any supplies that you don't need. Choose a charity that aligns with your values and instil the value of philanthropy into young minds. This will help to declutter your classroom and make it easier to pack up.
  5. Store supplies properly. Store your supplies in a safe and organised way. This will help to protect them from damage and make it easier to find them when you need them.

As you prepare to organise your classroom for closure, consider how you’ll be laying the foundations for your student’s success in the coming year. The end of the year is an opportunity to think about the changes you want to make in your classroom and for your students. Our range of workbooks are designed to encourage students to practise, consolidate, and reinforce important skills to set them up for success. Our flexible resources allow you to cherry pick the tools you and your students need to achieve.

We hope these tips help you pack up your classroom quickly and efficiently this summer. Time to get prepared for the new year!
